Grouse Ridge John,  was truly a mold-breaker in his day.  When he won the Pennsylvania Grouse Championship in 1965 as a three year old,  he was the first dog neither from PA nor handled by a Pennsylvanian to win that prestigious event.  His performing career, tragically,  was derailed by injury shortly after but,  with limited opportunity at stud, John broke the mold again by doing something  that no setter had done in the 60 years previous  and that none has done since: he sired two Hall Of Fame dogs,  Tomoka and Grouse Ridge Will.  In the latest edition of Field Trials compiled in 1987,  John was listed by Bill Brown as 21^st on the all time list in terms of winners produced.  On that same list,  Tomoka was second and Grouse Ridge Will fourth all-time.  It is hard to find a trial setter that does not have John in its pedigree.

The Northeast Grand National Old Timers Committee salutes this long-overlooked dog and now proclaim him a “Legend Of The Game.”
